‘And is that why she made statues?’ said Doctor Mike. ‘To annoy you?’
‘That’s a hard one,’ Aunt Lal said thoughtfully. ‘And I don’t know the answer.’
I decided to go out and leave them talking.
The sun shone. It was hot. I didn’t want to waste any of the fine weather.
I took down my jacket from the peg by the front door and pulled it on, automatically shoving my hands into the pockets.
And let out a yip.
For in one pocket was a key, and in the other, my apple and my ballpoint.
Perhaps, I thought, walking down towards the rocks, perhaps I’ll meet that boy Eden again and he’ll show me something else for the key to unlock …
